Requirements for Participation in Insurance Program:
  1. All league members including but not limited to participants, coaches, directors, and volunteers, must be a current NASSA member.
    1. * A League is defined as 3 or more people who organize to practice, fundraise, teach or learn, compete, and/or perform surfing, BMX, inline skating or skateboarding activities throughout the year
    2. ** Current members are defined as being logged into NASSA’s membership database and paid in full for membership, including insurance premiums.
  2. All league members must be amateurs. Professional and semi-professional* leagues and members are not eligible for the insurance program.
    1. * A Professional is defined as an individual who is making a living off of full time and/or part-time wages provided in exchange for performing or showcasing an activity. NASSA defines a professional as anyone who earns a wage of $5,000 or more in one year in exchange for performing or showcasing and activity, including any endorsements.
  3. All league members must reside in United States Territory or Canada. The United States Territory is limited to the 50 States only.
  4. All leagues must maintain a system to regularly secure signed Waiver and Release forms from league members and participants. For minor members and participants, these waiver/release forms should be signed by a parent or guardian. Unintentional error on the league’s part in securing Waiver and Release forms will not void coverage in the event of a claim by a league member or participant; however, a league’s failure to maintain an adequate system to regularly secure Waiver and Release forms will void all coverage in the event of a claim.

Remember – a participant assumes a risk when they sign up to participate in an activity. A spectator does not expect to be injured and is more likely to file a lawsuit if they are injured. Be diligent at all times to keep spectator areas safe from flying boards and bodies!

If you have spectators, photographers or reporters entering into an area of activity make them sign a waiver and explain the risks. If they are close to the action they should put a helmet on as well.
